    Equal Does Not Mean Identical
    I have taught the gifted and talented for several years. There are many different levels of abilities in these classes so differentiation was imperative. I am assuming that it is the same for the Read 180 class. There are different degrees of need. Once students have mastered a skill they need to move on. This is my first year in read 180 and I am sure I will have to see how this fits into the Read 180 classroom but from my experience all children are different.

    Language Strategies for Active Participation
    I will use the sentence stems to help student to create academic language. Posting the stems on the wall will help in the form of an anchor chart so that students will be able to refer to them often. Students need to be held accountable. This will also help extend their vocabulary.

Some students also need wait time and those students who yell out don't give them an opportunity to speak. These structure will definitely be used in my classroom. I totally agree that the students need to know that they will be held accountable for their learning and all students will be expected to communicate. This will only help them improve

    Very often in every class the same students want to answer questions. By using the participation structures such as numbered heads and the idea wave on a consistent basis students will always expect that they are going to be expected to respond.     Hello Helen, I love the idea of an 'exit slip', I will try to use it in my classroom.
    This article is very well connected to the article "Writing in Response to Reading". Writing is definitely a great way to keep in our memory what we learned, what we read.
    I always tell my students "You know that sometimes you come to mom or dad and you want to share with them about your day or the movie that you just watched... But seems like they don't want to listen.
    Maybe you are taking too long sharing your story, or you are giving to many details, and your parents are tired after work. So... we will learn how to compose great summaries. If we do this, we can go straight to the point and mom and dad will always willing to listen our stories"

    I liked what you said about often not knowing where to begin with your differentiation. I agree that sometimes it hard to know where to begin. I am glad that SAM will give us a jumping off point for our differentiation.

    I agree with your statement that just following the Read 180 curriculm is not enough. Even though differentiation is built into this program is still viatally important to use strategies to further aid in student achievement.
